Masts & Rigging

The tapered mast top is not only a matter of aesthetics, but an aerodynamic enhancement for improving air-flow in the head of the sail.

It's attention to detail that makes true quality. A Seldén rig is always checked down to the last detail.

Conventional masts

A yacht rig is a complicated system. All parts combine to make a whole. Precision in design and manufacture together with care in the choice of materials is crucial to endurance and longevity.

Our standard specification includes extruded headboxes with standard Delrin sheaves. All masts have flat base tops to mount electronics and navigation lights. All spreaders are aerofoil with cast alloy wrap around spreader roots and smooth edged clamp on spreader tips.

A full range of single sheave boxes, all with delrin sheaves ( these sheaves accept wire and all types of rope ), serve for pole lifts, staysail halyards, and furling genoa halyards.

A comprehensive range of spinnaker pole tracks and sliders allow any combination of spinnaker pole use or stowage, including twin vertical pole stowage or a single plunger stop ring slider. The range of fittings also includes RCB (re-circulating ball bearing) track sliders.

We can also offer many styles of rigging attachment. The most commonly used is the Gibb spoon backing plate, but we have a full range of tangs, or for the larger yacht, the Selden Seltang.

We can also adapt any of our masts to accept the full range of Navtec or Riggarna rod terminals and tip cups. Carefully designed gooseneck arrangements give good, strong, durable and long term wear characteristics. These are also easily used for rod and solid vang applications. The product range also includes a full range of cleats, winch pads, clutch pads and stoppers to allow us to personalise any mast to your specific sail handling needs.

The heel of the mast also has a full range of product available to enable us to produce exactly what you want, whether all the halyards exit through stainless steel lined exit slots at eye level, or around sheaves in a heel plug. The shape of the plug also allows easy tuning of the mast, at (almost) any angle of rake, as it has a curved base which sits onto a flat “T” base.

Please feel free to contact us if you have queries on the sail handling systems of your own yacht.
