Masts & Rigging

have first hand experience of sailing and racing many of the local fleets of Dayboats and One Design Classes. As a result we are main agents for the more popular classes, as follows:-

Cork 1720

Dragon Holt mast - this mast used to be sold by Petticrows and was the class standard for many, many years. We offer this mast now with the Holt/allspars label and can be supplied in various states of completion. Whether you are trying to rebuild an old classic and reuse some existing fittings or wish to have a complete championship winning specification mast, we can customise for you. Proprietor, Andy Postle, was heavily involved in the rebuild of a 1952 Camper & Nicholson Dragon "Buccaneer", GBR256, which included a new rig and complete fit out. Andy and crew then went on to finish 7th at the Edinburgh Cup.

Fife one design
We have recently developed a really quick mast for this fleet of open day keel boats based in the Menai Straits between Anglesey and North Wales.
We have developed a mast with a tapered topmast giving good gust response and ease of handling, which on a boat with no kicker/vang, is important as you don't want to be letting the mainsheet in and out on every gust.
The latest design work and fittings has also enabled us to save a lot of weight, compared to the original masts. The classic shape of our section also means it looks really good in this classic little yacht, in the same way as it does in the dragon.

We have also just put the finishing touches to the specification of a new mast for the Swallow class. Please contact us for this new spec and latest prices.

Squib Holt Mast - the class favourite for the lighter crews. We stock a complete championship specification rig for immediate despatch, along with tuning advice! We also have the Selden mast - stiffer than the Holt section, for the larger crew!

J24 Selden masts, booms and poles are held in stock, in our Plymouth workshops available for immediate despatch.
We also hold in stock, made up rigging sets, which use the Ronstan calibrated rigging screws including the handle kits for easy and quick adjustments of your rigging, pre-race.
The new Selden boom is so much stiffer than the older style Selden or Kenyon booms, which does make it much easier to trim the mainsail and keep the leech profile how you want it.

Piper 24

Sunbeams - Ajaxs' - Cork 1720's Years of experience sailing and fitting rigs to all these classes gives us an enviable reputation for service and advice to get you sailing fast. Whether you just require a halyard or a shroud, mast, boom, spinnaker pole or a complete new rig, we have the experience to help you quickly and efficiently.

Another of our successful little projects, has been the rigs for Cornish crabbers classic little dayboat -The Piper. This lovely boat has been created from the one design fleet in Scotland and conforms to the strict one design rules of that fleet. Within these rules we have created a mast and rigging system that is again, light, responsive and incredibly neat in its engineering. It can easily be retrofitted to any of the original fleet, racing in Scotland.

All of these day boat spars are easily recognised, as they are usually black anodised.

If you have a small day boat, please contact us for a comprehensive day boat quote.
