At only 21' REALITY is a Mini, a small offshore racing machine its diminutive
size hiding the fact that it is a phenomenal sailing vessel, a proto type
constructed from carbon fibre incorporating the latest developments in
design and is capable of speeds in excess of 20kts. A sophisticated rig
with a flying bowsprit supports a huge sail plan balanced by internal
water ballast and a variable geometry keel. Developments of the Mini mast
and rigging push the boundaries of technology and on REALITY the rig is
state-of-the-art. Vectran thread is wound to a predetermined diameter
and used for running back stays (ultra light, doesn't stretch, stronger
and more flexible than wire) rod rigging supports the extruded alloy mast
with three straight carbon spreaders maximising strength and lateral rigidity
of the spar whilst allowing full control of the ultra light rig. In all
its glory REALITY is like an insect with its wings unfolded skimming across
the water.

allspars
are very pleased to announce our support for one of our riggers Dave Barden
and his sailing partner Jeremy Grogono of Rush Sailing who have just launched
their campaign 'the challenge' to compete in their 6.50m Mini Transat
yacht called REALITY in the inaugural Mini Challenge Atlantique race next
September. In this novel event crews will race across the Atlantic double
handed to the Canaries and then on to the Caribbean in minute little yachts,
the very first British event of its kind.
As part of their preparation for the Atlantic Dave and Jeremy are participating
in the Royal Western Yacht Club's Two-Handed Round Britain and Ireland
Race to start from QAB on June 9th 2002. This is the first time that Classe-
Mini is entered into the RB&I race. An event to take competitors around
the British Isles this promises to be an immense challenge of seamanship
and stamina for the Mini crews when yachts and equipment will be tested
to the extreme as they complete the equivalent of 4 Fastnets!.
Not only because Dave is one of our own riggers but because he and Jeremy
are the local team based here in QAB all of us at allspars
are proud to be supporting their innovative and exciting project and look
forward to the continued development of their rig. We will be following
their progress as their adventure happens and you can get their latest
updates on our website or in the shop, alternatively you can visit them
at www.rushsailing.co.uk .
Good luck Rush Sailing.!
