TYPICAL BALUSTRADING SYSTEM SPECIFICATION

Materials:

  • Wire WR6119-04 (Stainless steel grade 316, 1 x 19 construction, 1/8 in. - 3.2mm)
  • Saddle RF134 (Stainless steel Saddle)
  • Turnbuckle RF1 576-0404 (Sealoc Turnbuckle Toggle-Swage)
  • Swage Toggle RF1 506-0404 (Swage Toggle)
  • Through Bush PNP54C (Nylon Bush)

Measurement:

Cable lengths should be site measured following fabrication of balusters and installation of end connections ie. saddles. Measurement of cable lengths must be from centre of pin to centre of pin. Cables are made with turnbuckle set at two-thirds extension.

Installation Procedure:

  1. Attach swage toggle ends to end baluster connections.
  2. String wires through bushed holes in intermediate balusters.
  3. Attach turnbuckle body to end baluster connections. Connect threaded terminal into turnbuckle body & tension cables.

Rigging Set Out:

Set out wire runs in equal and symmetrical configuration. For lengths less than 10m fit one tumbuckle per wire. For lengths of 10-20m fit one turnbuckle each end of wire.

TYPICAL ROD SYSTEM SPECIFICATION

Materials:

Rod RF1 525-## (Stainless steel grade 316 rod)

Fork end RF1528-## (Stainless steel grade 316 fork fitting, left hand thread)

Fork end RF15294# (Stainless steel grade 316 fork fitting, right hand thread)

Specification Procedure:

  1. Determine rod diameter based on required load in structure. Refer table page 24. Last two numbers are size codes.
  2. Select Fork or Eye end fitting type to suit rod diameter. Refer page 24. Last two numbers are size codes.
  3. Supply pin to pin length to Ronstan. Rod assemblies are supplied at mid range adjustment unless specified otherwise. Lengths over 3.6m (12 ft) require rod joiner.

Rod Installation Procedure:

  1. 1. Assemble rod joiners, if used, with Loctite prImer #7649 & Loctite #277. Allow 48hrs curing time before installation of rods.
  2. 2. Attach end fittings to structure lug connections. Use thread locking compound (eg Loctite #277) on clevis pin screws.
  3. 1. Tighten rods to desired tension by simultaneously turning the rod with spanners using both spanner flats.
  4. 2. Lock end fittings with tapered lock nuts once final tension is achieved.
