Sleeved D+ Section - 1st World Championships 2007

The 2007 World Championship winning Seldén D+ mast section continued to perform well in all levels of competition but has evolved to improve downwind performance.

The D+ section was designed specifically for the Enterprise class, which, with its deck stepped rig and minimally tapered topmast, requires a very high sideways stiffness for off wind speed but combined with fore/ aft bend characteristics which enables power upwind to be controlled through fore and aft mast bend.

Testing in 2002 proved that a super stiff lower mast sleeve helps resist the sideways thrust force of the kicker providing a deeper and more powerful sail off wind. The new mast was thoroughly tested by the likes of Ian Pinnell & Jim Hunt and was used by Nick Craig to win the Enterprise World Championships in 2007.

Nick commenting ’...the mast was an integral part in our winning package, giving us a speed edge over the fleet’.

Richard Sault, 2008 National Champion agrees with Nick "The Seldén D+ has always been the fastest and most reliable mast around for the Enterprise, the fittings have been good and when there’s ever been a problem or anything to add, the Seldén staff are always keen to listen, help and improve. Seldén is by far the most professional Spar manufacturer around."

Our 2628 boom section was designed around Enterprise class rules to give the unique strength-for-weight characteristics needed to give absolute mainsheet and kicker control, and boom slides are a unique design which allow direct attachment of mainsheet block saving every ounce at the end of the boat.

Why Seldén?

Choose a Seldén mast and you will find many performance enhancing features unique to our products, for example:

  • The Seldén tapering system ensures that our tapers are minimum size and weight. This gives low windage, centre of gravity and topmast weight. This maximises your speed by enabling the topmast to react quickly to gusts and waves giving better acceleration, a smoother ride upwind and, ultimately, more races won!
  • Automated welding keeps excess heat out of the taper for guaranteed consistency and performance. The weld produced is so perfect that there is no need to mechanically grind the weld (which can induce inconsistencies). This means that once we have finalised a winning design, you can be sure that your spar will perform identically to the champions.
  • All masts are heat treated in our purpose-designed oven. This artificial hardening ensures that you get maximum performance from the high performance aluminium alloy.
  • Our spars pass through a purpose-developed bead-peening machine. This gives the mast a perfect satin finish that dramatically improves fatigue properties, giving you a mast that will perform reliably for many years.
  • Top quality fittings such as our fully adjustable spreader bracket and highly durable cast gooseneck ensure speed and reliability on the racecourse.
