NEW Mast Section

Working closely with the Class Association and Speed Sails, Seldén have upgraded the registered GP14 section to our new Cumulus section. The rig has been used to immediate success in winning the 2004 National Championships, and now the standard supply on all bew Speed Sail boats.

A more modern section than the ’D’, the stiffness to weight ratio is more efficient, and with an improved taper, the Cumulus creates a faster, more user friendly mast for the boat.

With a similar fore and aft stiffness to the ’D’ section, existing mainsails will set well on the mast with the improvements coming from the more DYNAMIC nature of the tube.

Boom

The Seldén 2628 boom has the unique strength-for-weight characteristics necessary to achieve absolute mainsheet and kicker control, and our boom slides allow direct attachment of kicker and mainsheet blocks for efficient centrelining.

Why Seldén?

Choose a Seldén mast and you will find many performance enhancing features unique to our products, for example:

• The Seldén tapering system ensures that our tapers are minimum size and weight. This gives low windage, centre of gravity and topmast weight. This maximises your speed by enabling the topmast to react quickly to gusts and waves giving better acceleration, a smoother ride upwind and, ultimately, more races won!
• Automated welding keeps excess heat out of the taper for guaranteed consistency and performance. The weld produced is so perfect that there is no need to mechanically grind the weld (which can induce inconsistencies). This means that once we have finalised a winning design, you can be sure that your spar will perform identically to the champions.
• All masts are heat treated in our purpose-designed oven. This artificial hardening ensures that you get maximum performance from the high performance aluminium alloy.
• Our spars pass through a purpose-developed bead-peening machine. This gives the mast a perfect satin finish that dramatically improves fatigue properties, giving you a mast that will perform reliably for many years.
• Top quality fittings such as our fully adjustable spreader bracket and highly durable cast gooseneck ensure speed and reliability on the racecourse.

Mast Specification - Cumulus

Series 1 mast has square heel plug, series 2 standard tenon plug.

Included on the mast are hook rack, main halyard sheave, ball bearing sheaves top and bottom for spinnaker halyard, and fully adjustable spreaders.

Drawlines for all halyards are fitted for fast attachment of rigging.

Boom Specification - 2628

Boom is supplied as standard with inboard and outboard ends with sheaves, small cutaway on outboard end, and three boom slides.

Spinnaker Pole Specification

Standard pole is a light and stiff 38mm tapered tube with piston ends.

Rigging Specification

Rigging includes wire main halyard and swaged lower ends on shrouds.

Spreader Deflection	155mm (aft edge of mast to straight line between shrouds)
Mast Rake	6655mm on medium setting (measured from top black band to transom)
Rig Tension	160 kg (light), 180 kg (medium), 200 kg (heavy) (measured on the shroud)
Pre-Bend	20mm at spreader height (with rig tensioned to medium setting)
