Solo Tuning Information
The Ultimate Solo Mast
During 1999 Jim Hunt asked Seldén for a section stiffer than our ‘C’ section up to the hounds, but flexible fore and aft and stiff sideways in the topmast. The objective was to control sail shape through the wind range with kicker tension, but ensure that the mast stays straight sideways for downwind and medium wind speed.
The Seldén Cumulus Solo mast achieves these features through the
special double topmast taper, which gives minimum fore/aft size without
compromising sideways stiffness.
The Cumulus mast is ideally suited to sailors 77kg and above and has won every
National and World Championships since its design.
The C-sleeved mast, pioneered by Ken Falcon, is still the definitive Solo mast
for the sailors 77kg and less.
NEW Boom Section
The Seldén 2628 Boom has unique strength for weight characteristics
necessary to achieve absolute mainsheet and kicker control. Boom slides allow
direct attachment of mainsheet blocks for efficient boom centre lining.

Why Seldén?
Choose a Seldén mast and you will find many performance enhancing features unique to our products, for example:
- The Seldén tapering system ensures that our tapers are minimum size and weight. This gives low windage, centre of gravity and topmast weight. This maximises your speed by enabling the topmast to react quickly to gusts and waves giving better acceleration, a smoother ride upwind and, ultimately, more races won!
- Automated welding keeps excess heat out of the taper for guaranteed consistency and performance. The weld produced is so perfect that there is no need to mechanically grind the weld (which can induce inconsistencies). This means that once we have finalised a winning design, you can be sure that your spar will perform identically to the champions.
- All masts are heat treated in our purpose-designed oven. This artificial hardening ensures that you get maximum performance from the high performance aluminium alloy.
- Our spars pass through a purpose-developed bead-peening machine. This gives the mast a perfect satin finish that dramatically improves fatigue properties, giving you a mast that will perform reliably for many years.
- Top quality fittings such as our fully adjustable spreader bracket and highly durable cast gooseneck ensure speed and reliability on the racecourse.

Tuning Tips
| Mast Heel | 3055mm |
| Forestay | Just tight when mast (without sail up) is at back of gate. |
| Shrouds | Just tight when mast (without sail up) is 10mm from front of gate. |
| Chock | Use 1 chock, which just fits in front or behind mast. |
| Light airs Medium airs Heavy airs |
Chock behind mast, rake centreboard forward, vang just
